Singer-composer Raju Singh surprised his friend of two decades, director Hansal Mehta by celebrating his birthday (April 29) at his studio. Hansal and actor Rajkummar Rao were in the midst of taking stock of the background score of City Lights, when Raju presented Mehta with a cake.

I was under the impression that we were to celebrate Shahid winning the National award. I reached there and found that it was Hansal's birthday too. Cake-cutting to banta tha. I generally tend to shy away from celebrations, but this time around, I decided to surprise Hansal and get him a cake. More than me, it was my wife Sherley's idea. Hansal is an old friend of ours and his National award meant a lot to both of us."
"I can always rely on Raju, as I know what magic his background score can do to a film. This is as far as the professional aspect goes. However, when he surprised me by getting me to cut a cake, it really moved me," says Hansal.
Rajkummar grins, "As an actor, there is a lot to learn. And of course, the perks are that once in a while, you get some amazing cake to sample."
